Monday will be a holiday here in the richest province in the country. Not only do we have more money, natural resources, pick-up trucks, cows, and gay-bashing rednecks than the rest of the country, we also have at least one more holiday.
A former Premier of this province lost his son to drunk driving. The Premier assumed some of the blame for his son's death because Dad was into politics, not so much into his family, and Son turned to a life of artificially enhanced sensory excess as a means to compensate for the father - son time he so desperately needed. Son died, Dad felt remorse, Dad created provincial holiday called Family Day.
Like most everyone else, I don't often look at it as other than another Long Weekend. I don't think I've once participated in any officially sanctioned Family Day activities. I do regularly spend time with my (immediate) family and don't see much of a need to commit a whole day to it as being more significant than all the others. The same as I didn't do a bloomin' thing on Valentine's day. My wife and I share a sentiment about that date, and I am ALL for that. (She did make me a miniature brown milk carton chock-a-block full of York Peppermint Bites. It resides on my desk at work and is emptying at an alarming rate.)
Actually, I do owe my mother a date. In the spirit of Family Day, I'll take her out to a movie this weekend. How about that!
Speaking of family, Tavish's birthday is looming (two weeks plus a day) and the little bugger's teeth are still holding out on us. Not a one. Spreading his lips apart in a comically grim rictus reveals a full upper row of buds I just know want to break free of their fleshy confines. And if the little man's rosy cheeks and nightly squalls are any indication, he's gonna cut them all in the same week.
Plans for the near future:
Perhaps the long weekend will present me with the chance to make a video showing the proper way to eat a Coffee Crisp. Y'all are doing it totally wrong.
I'll get the first post (of maybe two or three) up of my hair history on Saturday or Sunday. Because I'm all about embarrassing self-aggrandizement.
Saskatchewan has followed suit. We have Family Day on Monday as well! (We're such followers, aren't we?)

Every year Moonshot and I discuss the fact tha Valentine's is a rediculous and made-up holiday that needs not be observed. And every year we both cave and give each other a little something. Nothing big, but enough to keep Hallmark and the local florists in business.
Monday is President's Day here in the States. I think government employees and banks get it off...but not the average worker. But "Yea!" for Family Day if it means such goodies for your blog. Hair and candy! (preferably not together)

It is not possible that your good towels were ruined almost an entire year ago. Not possible. If I could fold my arms and cover my ears at the same time, I would be, with my eyes closed, while shaking my head vehemently.

Family Day? Like MG said, for some here in the U.S. it's a long weekend thanks to President's Day (a conglomeration of Lincoln's and Washington's birthdays).
Not only do banks get off, MG, but so do companies that call banks their customers. Like mine. Whoo-hoo!
I agree about Valentine's Day. I don't need anyone to tell me I need to love my wife. I do and she knows it and I show her every day (pretty much). But, just like MG and Moonshot, each year we each cave and give a little token. Dang us for perpetuating a greeting card holiday!
