The four Frasers took the one-hour drive from home to pick up Amy's new Toyota last night after a quick dinner. Tavish cried in escalating degrees for the last half hour of it, which caused Declan to whine in empathetic harmonic counterpoint. My wife and I each sported a jaw-clenched rictus by the time we pulled up to the dealership, but all went well after that.
On our drive through Edmonton to head south we listened to my brother's loaned satellite radio because he still can't find the faceplate for his car's stereo that he misplaced in the move up from Calgary. I haven't yet helped him look for it.
The radio was tuned to a comedy channel, of which I have access to three, all of which have quickly clued me in to the fact that about 90% of stand-up comedy sucks ass. This is due to the inclination of many comics to focus their routines on some desultory combination of sexual innuendo, gender bias, relationship stereotypes and whatever ethnic epithets they can get away with based on their own race and/or sexual orientation. Pepper it all liberally with profane language and you have an instant recipe for comedic feculence.
There are some gems that shine through.
As we drove down the freeway, one comedian went on about his encounters with some of the more evangelical Christians he's met in the deep south of the States and the circuitous logic they employ.
"So I ask this one guy what's his reason for acting the way he does."
"Because it's God's word."
"Well, how do you know it's God's word?"
"Because it's written in the bible."
"The bible's a book; how do you know it's the word of God?"
"Because God wrote the bible."
"And how do you know God wrote the bible?"
"Because it's in the bible."
...finishing up with...
"It's no wonder those guys like Nascar so much -- round in a circle fuckin' 400 times!"
*****
Cracked me right up, and seemed an appropriate joke, us on our way to buy a new car.
ROTFLOL!!!
As someone from the south (ok...not the DEEP south...but the south) I think that joke is perfect!!
Actually, it's so true...I don't know wether to laugh or cry.

As another from the South, I know this happens down here a LOT. Further questioning would just blow that person's mind.

I love that comedy channel. We have Satelite radio too and I can't believe we fought over getting it. Could not wrap my head around paying for radio. Glad we did though. Great for road trips!
My kids LOVE the Disney Channel. Is it bad that I totally dig Hanna Montanna?

:-) Thanks for that. Did you let Amy drive the Toyota home?

Just an observation. You and your youngest have the same foreheads!
