So the CBC, many of the employees of which are currently locked out / on strike, has been recycling a LOT of programming the past week or so. Much easier to put a tape in and press play than pay the unionized workforce. Or something like that.
This has reaped, for me, the unexpected benefit of having my Sunday evening capped off with a broadcast of Star Wars.
And this, of course, had me immediately thinking of duct tape.
Because as you well know, like the Force, duct tape has a light side and a dark side and it binds the universe together.
It certainly keeps much of my house from falling into further disrepair.
The vacuum hose just recently had its third batch of duct tape administered. An errant bit of dog bone and a subsequent attempt to free it from the bend in the hose with a shish-kebab skewer necessitated the addition of the silver wonder.
All of the hot air vents in the basement are covered with cardboard and duct tape to save on natural gas costs.
The door of the clothes dryer is held shut with a strip of duct tape. It's good for about ten loads or so and then loses its sealing ability. We keep a roll right on top for the times it needs to be replaced. We found out that if the door is opened just a crack, it'll keep on running and running and running for hours on end without the clothes getting dry or the machine stopping.
Forgot to bring your slippery shoe curling? A couple strips of duct tape on the sole of one of your sneakers will more than amply fit the bill. The toes of my squash shoes were frequently adorned in duct tape. Whole lotta lungin' goin' on.
I've even heard that the space shuttle won't launch without at least one roll of 'that silver tape' on board for the just-in-case scenarios. I'll bet it would work to keep foam insulation in place, too.
Thanks, CBC.
