My company, having a branch office in Regina, Saskatchewan, has recently been awarded some construction work for what is pleasantly termed a 'Cattle Abattoir' in Neudorf, Saskatchewan.
While this may conjure images of Henrietta Heifer and her cronies lounging in hay-strewn indolence and having their cud chewed for them, rest assured that is not the truth of the matter. I had to look the word up, though I had a sneaking suspicion as to its definition given that, in context, it was prefaced with the word 'cattle' and the only real pampered cows I know of currently hold office in government.
No, the sordid truth of the matter is that cows go to an abattoir to get shot in the head, skinned, gutted and chopped up into tasty bits that eventually end up on one's barbeque. The remnants most likely being labelled 'Oscar Meyer'.
Now you know.
And by the way, not all cities in the geometrically pleasing province of Saskatchewan, Canada have such names as Regina and Neudorf. Some are more mundane and don't lend themselves quite so well to being made fun of. Like 'Moosejaw'.
