Driving in to the parking lot of the South Edmonton Common Cineplex Odeon cinemas, I cannot recall the last time I felt that excited about anything. Perhaps back in 1997 when I went to see the re-release of the first trilogy. And last night... I was not disappointed.
Nearly last in line for the free contest-winners-only pre-screening of Sith, my movie viewing companion and I scored sweet seats in the theatre, after watching all the Jedi and stormtroopers cavort outside the main entrance. My comment to my buddy at the time: "Seems a few of those 'troopers have let themselves go a bit." Some of that glossy armour had a hard time containing all the girth restrained within. Proof, I suppose, that an Empire breeds complacency.
Also overheard in line behind me was one gal gleefully relating a 'news' article she had heard before arriving that, "...thousands upon thousands of virgins have been camped out for days in order to be the first to see Revenge of the Sith." Sounds like Triumph the comic insult dog.
Then, just moments after taking our seats, two rows behind me one young padawan was heard to exclaim, "I thought this was supposed to be a female-free zone!" (*snicker, snort*) No, my very young apprentice, but your bed will be for many years to come. Q.E.D.
The rousing applause at the opening crawl was music to my ears, after which the opening scenes grabbed me by the eyeballs and didn't let go for the first twenty minutes. I can't go into a lengthy dissertation now, since I need to see it a few more times to allow everything to sink in appropriately. But THIS was the sweet justification for the last six years of nay-sayers.
And now I just have to count down the remaining hours in today before I am officially on holly-days for two weeks.
Sweet...
I'm not going out looking for opinions, but just this morning from the blogs I read regularly I have seen opinions from you, Jaquandor at Byzantium's Shores, and Joey DeSilva at Accordion Guy that make me really, really, really want to go see this movie. Right away. Sigh.
