There is a certain part of me that feels quite a bit of relief at looking over my left shoulder here at work and seeing all three flags outside my window NOT flying at half-mast. At least one of the three has been flying low since the beginning of March when the four members of a local RCMP detachment were killed in the line of duty.
Then my roommate was killed on the highway.
Then Pope John Paul II shuffled off his mortal coil.
All sad events. All reminders of my own mortality, symbolised by a drooping Maple Leaf outside my window. So I'm feeling a little livelier today, and grateful for it.
