Our corporate HS&E manager walked into my office and shut the door about an hour ago. This is NEVER a good thing.
Around 7 AM this morning, my co-worker and former roommate of almost two years (when I worked up in Ft. McMurray), as he was heading from his apartment to the project site where he works, was involved in a head-on collision with a bus. He didn't make it. He just celebrated his 26th birthday last week.
I'm not entirely sure why I'm typing this right now other than the fact that I've been sitting here in rather stunned silence for the past hour and feel that I ought to do something. I phoned my other co-worker, who still rooms with him, and realised that he's now going to end up boxing up all this guy's stuff to send down to his parents, who have been living with him in Edmonton.

Thanks guys. I just noted that the flags outside my window, recently raised to full height after the Mountie shootings near here, are back at half-mast again.

Simon .... I am so sorry. I can imagine you must be feeling terrible. Word are never adequate at a time like this, so I'll just say that you and your friend will be in my thoughts and prayers. Tina

My condolences... death is a hard pill to swallow in any case, but it is especially difficult when the deceased is so young and so...just starting their journey...Penny

You know, I've been thinking quite a bit about this over the last couple of days. I'd like to change my sentiment from above.

I don't use it often, but I thought it was called for.
