The signs are all there. I just have to take a look and make an uncomfortable admission. Mostly to myself. I'm becoming a blogging hit junkie. A couple times a day, I will check out my account at sitemeter.com to see what kind of traffic this here Simian Farmer site is receiving. And it's been steadily increasing (albeit in a very modest manner) since I started this in the fall. Just yesterday I reached a landmark event: 40 hits in one day!! As Jean Chretien would say, I'm becoming very 'poopular'.
Add to this the fact that I have now had to ban five different IP addresses in the last month from posting comments to this site (advertising gambling websites for the most part), and the evidence is pointing to my rising star.
In junior high it was slices of buttered bread after school; in high school it was ensconcing myself anywhere possible with a book to read; in university it was D&D gaming mixed with Net-Trek and DOOM (intranet video games); and in my first years in the working world it was Diablo II. (I finally uninstalled that game from my computer after having attained a level 67 Necromancer at the cost of most of two month's of sleep.) My addictions have taken different forms over the past years, and I now have to admit that blogging is becoming 'it' right now.
If it seems that I am posting something here just for the sake of posting something here, somebody smack me over the head with their Blackberry, would ya?
But if the trend keeps going the way it is, I'll have outstripped slashdot in no time!! (Mu-wa-ha-hah-hah!!) This is tempered by the knowledge that many of the hits I get are from search engines looking for 'there are four lights' and my favourite to date, 'farmer sex'.
This is what my traffic looked like for the past month. Let's see if we can break 100 in a day by the end of the month!! I need my fix...
Congrats!!! Great journal, btw....Penny http://journals.aol.com/schnozbeary/FreshCupMoveDown

Thanks Penny.
It's comments like that which tend to validate my narcissistic navel-gazing here for everyone else to see...
I'm not too sure how that comment reads, but I'm at work right now, trending towards 70 hours for the week and feeling grumpy about it.
:)
